Originariamente incisa da The Clovers nel 1953

The Colvers registrarono “Down In The Alley” prima il 21 dicembre 1953 per l’Atlantic, ma il brano non venne mai pubblicato. Registrarono la canzone nuovamente per la Atlantic il 26 luglio 1957 e nell’agosto dello stesso anno, venne pubblicato un singolo, accoppiato con “There’s No Tomorrow”., scritto da Jesse Stone. Stone era uno scrittore con molto talento che spesso usava lo pseudonimo di Chalet CalHoun. Ad esempio questo era il nome usato per “Shake, Ratte and Roll”. Nel 1956, di Stone, Elvis incise anche “Flip, Flop and Fly” e “Shake, Ratte and Roll”, mentre incise "Like A Baby", nel 1960.
